One Silent Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Wow, it's been some time since I last posted. So sorry. The holidays and getting back on track took much longer than I expected. In the meantime, I have had a chance to read a lot of books when my muse was being very difficult. But I'm hoping to be back on a more regular basis.

Okay, who would have thought that a book based on the enemy (bad guy) would be so intriguing and good? But then, all villains have histories, right? I was at first weary about Stryker’s book, however, I know how his life is very much attached to Ash and several other regular characters in the Dark Hunter series.

Though the story is centered on Stryker, we are also thrown into subplots that bring more information that are surprising. The greatest thing about the book (in my opinion) was seeing more of Nick. :D Yeah, Ash if my absolute favorite character, but Nick has always been my #2. I won’t spoil any surprises, but perhaps, in the long run, he and Ash won’t be enemies after all.

Okay, back to Stryker. It was nice to see that he actually has emotions and regrets in his life. And I never dreamed that there was a woman alive that held so much power over him.

Mrs. Kenyon did a wonderful job on this book. She made the reader fall for a villain, though, is he really a villain? Only the reader can decide. But she did a terrific job at bringing together enemies in a truce to save those they love.

This is a “don’t miss” book in the long running Dark Hunter series.

Slave Boy by Evangeline Anderson

I’m a fan of Evangeline Anderson. Especially her gay stories. Her book, The Assignment, was the first e-book I read and fell in love with the story and inspired me to actually try writing gay fiction for publishment. So, of course, when Ms. Anderson released a new gay book, I had to get it.

I wasn’t disappointed. Though I’m not a huge sci-fi nut (I have to like the author before I read most), but I started reading without judgment. Slave boy is a hot story. It was filled with sexy scenes, BDSM elements, and some interesting characters that a reader could really hate. Let’s not forget the suspense as Haven and his novice (Light Bringer in training), Wren declare their love though it was forbidden.

This is a classic story of soulmates. How can one go wrong with that theme?

Wren has been in love with his master from the moment he laid eyes on him. Haven rescued him from a life of sexual slavery and his gratitude is exceeded only by his desire for the tall, broad shouldered man he calls Master.

When the pair are sent to mediate a conflict aboard the huge Tiberion war ship, Haven discovers that he must have a pleasure slave to fulfill the local customs. Wren offers to play the part but will his role as Haven's slave boy bring back too much of his painful past? Eight Nights by Keira Andrews

Tis the season for lots of Christmas/holiday stories. I’ve got a few in my book folder and it looks like I’ll probably read them again before Christmas is actually here. (Gotta refresh my memory and make sure they are still available before I post anything here). However, I’ve had this one sitting there for some time and just hadn’t gotten around to reading. With December in full swing, tree up, decorations hung, how could I not take the time?

This is my first time reading Keira Andrews. As a fellow Loose-Id author, I knew it would be well written. I found myself very much drawn into the story. I’m not Jewish and know very little about Hanukkah, so I could relate with the main character, Lucas as he observed his roommate’s family observe many of the traditions that occur during those eight nights.

Of course, the sex between Lucas and Nate (Lucas’s college roommate’s brother) is hot. Nate had wonderful patience as Lucas explored and lost his virginity. The chemistry between the two was steaming and easy going almost right from the start.

Eight Nights has a “happy for now” ending and would love to see more of Lucas and Nate.

This is a sexy read with just the right amount of holiday to make those cold nights a little warmer. ;)

Yet as the candles burn, Nate and Lucas begin to realize eight nights will never be enough.

Blue Ruin 2: Close To Me

I’m in lust! I’m a writer of male/male erotic fiction. I love the thought/image of two (or more) gorgeous men together. Though I don’t write yaoi, I enjoy reading it. And then there’s the BDSM genre. I write it and take pleasure in reading it. This story has all the above and makes a great story.

Ms. Strauss does a wonderful job with her characters in the Blue Ruin series. How can one not lust after submissive Blue? Or his dominate partner, Derek? I’ll admit that Blue is my favorite. ;) Ms. Strauss brings in some fantastic new characters. Jodi, April, and let’s not forget Cameron…Blue’s nemesis from his school days and threat to his budding relationship with Derek.

I’m not too keen on Cameron. He’s too brash and gruff for delicate Blue. *sigh* However, having him in the plot really created a lot of conflict for Blue and Derek.

If you a superb story, make sure you check out this series.

Raine by Elizabeth Amber

I really enjoyed the first book of this series, Nicholas. From what I saw of Raine in that book I knew I’d love him…and I wasn’t wrong. Both the hero and heroine are stubborn characters, with their own secrets for their own reason. Of course it’s aggravating and I want to strangle them both, but I held in there and wasn’t disappointed.

So far, Raine is my favorite brother, but then I haven’t read Lyon yet. I’m looking forward to the type of woman who can tame that one. *wiggle eyebrows*

Oh, this is a great book, you should read it.

Wicked Hot by Charlene Teglia

After discovering a Waldenbooks in a nearby mall, I’m finding that I’m reading more and more new authors. Of course, I’m elated that they carry print books from Ellora’s Cave, Samhain, and Kensington Aphrodisia. An entire section with erotic romance. :D Talk about being in hog heaven. Of course, I’ve got loads of e-books here on my computer, but being a writer, there are just days I don’t even want to look at this screen a moment longer. However, I’ve broken down and ordered me a e-book reader. It should be here next week, so I’ll be able to break this tie from my laptop and tell you about all the great books I have here.

Okay, on to my next newfound author. Charlene Teglia. The title of this book got my attetion. Wicked Hot. Oh, and the man’s torso on the cover help catch my attention too *wink* But her tag line also sealed the deal. Two immortal warriors, satisfying her every need…

Wicked Hot is enough to give any woman a wet dream. *pant* Edana, aka Beelzababe, is a succubus sent to lure the soul from a troublesome Nephilim, Eli. Instead, she ends up being bound by her target, his every order carried out, including doing the dishes. Then throw in Dal, Eli’s brother, and we’ve got the pieces for some hot, wicked sex.

And let me tell you, if you like sex, threesomes, sex, anal play/penetration, and more sex…yeah, this is the book for you.

I really enjoyed this book, however, I have one complaint. It’s written in first person, which I have no trouble with. But all through the book I kept asking “What’s going on in Eli’s head?” He was so controlled and showed such little emotion except for possessiveness toward Edana, that it personally bugged me that I didn’t have more insight. But that is just my own personal opinion on this book and my own nagging hag in my brain wanting more.

I highly recommend this book for some hours of hot fun.

Love's Evolution by Ally Blue

I’m familiar with Ally Blue and her books as she is also part of the Slash and Burn blog which we both belong to centering on Manlove. However, I’d not gotten a chance to read any of her books. I can’t say that now.

Love’s Evolution is more than a love story. It’s as the title implies. The evolution of two lives as they meet, fall in love, and discover the ups and downs of life together. Each man growing along the way.

This book made me think back to the time when my husband and were engaged. He told me one day that I’d change. I was 21 and thought I knew anything and protested that idea. I didn’t really take his warning seriously even though he’d been married once before. After marriage, came children, and within five years I had to admit that he was correct. I’d changed. My view on life, my perspectives, and my way of thinking. It shifted from myself to the ones who were closest.

Chris and Matt’s relationship grew in a similar way. It was easy to fall for the two characters and their fun loving ways. I especially enjoyed Matt’s kinky and wild desires. It definitely pushed the heat level of this story and made it a lot of fun to read.

I fully recommend taking the journey through life’s gifts and heartaches with Chris and Matt.

Nicholas by Elizabeth Amber

This is my first Elizabeth Amber book and I’m hooked. Her style is smooth and I loved the creative idea behind the Lords of Satyr. The warning on the back of the book says: Warning! This is a REALLY HOT book. Uh, yeah, definitely.

The Lords of Satyr series is about three half human, half Satyr brothers who live in Tuscany, Italy. They own a large, successful vineyard, which also holds an entrance to ElseWorld. A note is delivered from the dying King ordering the three brothers to find his half human, half faerie daughters and marry them. Whether they want a wife or not.

This first book of the series focuses on Nicholas. The eldest of the Lords. He’s a dominant, arrogant, controlled man who made many women swoon. I could understand why if I ever met someone like this in person. *whew* Though I’m not sure I, personally, would want this type of man paired with me. I’ll wait until after I find more out about Raine and Lyon before picking a favorite brother. *drool*

Jane herself is a handful as she doesn’t know of her heritage and believes she’s a freak. Her only concern is to find a cure for her little sister before she comes “of age” and get them away from an overbearing aunt and their drunkard father.

Of course, Nicholas coming into the picture really changes things and ups the danger level all around. I won’t give away all that fun conflict, but this is a great book, full of great characters and suspenseful moments.

In fact, I’ve got Raine, the second book, sitting right here waiting for me to crack open. Oh, and have you seen the cover?!? H-O-T!!!

And the dying king of ElseWorld wants him not only to marry, but to wed one of the king’s own daughters—a half-human, half-faerie woman unaware of her heritage. Nicholas won’t shirk his duty to produce heirs to guard his race’s legacies, but he never planned to make his bride his only lover. A Satyr’s sexual hunger and sexual skills are legendary. Dark Curse by Christine Feehan

I’m a big fan of Christine Feehan’s Dark series. I’ve read nearly all of them. I think there are two that I’ve still not gotten a hold of. This one didn’t disappoint. In fact, I think this one would compare to Dark Demon, which is the one book that drew me to the series.

Dark Curse focuses on one of the De La Cruz brothers, Nicolas, and Lara Calladine. A female that carries the blood of Dragonseeker, Carpathian, and Mage. The daughter of Razvan, twin brother of Natalya from Dark Demon. The chemistry between the two sparks and explodes like firecrackers.

Ms. Feehan does a wonderful job with characterization and depicted an abuse victim very well as Lara suffers flashbacks of her childhood.

If you are a fan, this is a must read as the Carpathians find the cause of why few of their children survive…let alone thrive after birth. I won’t spoil the book, but I can’t wait to see how she has the characters solve this new obsticle.

If you’ve never read any of these books, I would recommend them.

Sins of the Night by Devyn Quinn

I’ve had the privilege of reading a few of Ms. Quinn’s books, and I’ve been happy with every one so far. She’s got a writing style I enjoy.

Sins of the Night is definitely a darker themed story. I fell easily for Adrien and his torturous past. Though, at times I wanted to shake some sense into him and yell to get over it. But then, that’s what makes his character so attractive. *sigh*

I’ve also found why Ms. Quinn’s favorite character, Morgan Saint-Evanston, is so much fun to write. He’s a trip.*lol*

If you like dark vampire stories, this is one to read.

Hot Property by Carly Phillips

This was my first Carly Phillips book, but not my last. The cover was what caught my attention, along with the baseball theme of the book. After I bought the book, I realized it’s part of a series. The Hot Zone series. Now, I haven’t read any of those books, but I found that I didn’t need to in order to follow the story line. Ms. Phillips did a wonderful job of introducing the characters from her other books so anyone who did as I did, knew who was who.

John Roper was a handsome and very likable character. Amy was funny and I could so relate about having to deal with a wacky family. This was a great story filled with interesting characters and it made me laugh. I’m looking forward to reading more books from Ms. Phillips.

Taniea is dumped by her boyfriend for being too bold, too aggressive and too mouthy. Throwing herself into her new job she traveled to China and met Michael Shen. She convinced him that a fling while she was in his country would be time well spent for them both. Would two weeks of Taniea be too much for Michael to handle or will he leave everything he knows to have a thousand more with her?

Excerpt:

Taniea drove her car frantically along the downtown streets of small town Anna, Ohio. Screeching to a stop in front of the Chase One building, she stomped across the lobby and tapped her foot while she waited for the elevator. She reached her floor and stomped down the hall, walking right up to the cowering secretary who sat frozen watching her approach.

“Where is DeMarcus?” she demanded.

“He’s, he’s in a meeting, Ms. Onyx, but—“

She turned on her heel and headed down the hall as the rest of the secretary’s words faded behind her. Taniea listened at the different conference room doors as she walked by them, and when she heard voices she pushed the door open with a hard slam.

“DeMarcus Green, who do you think you are?” she yelled.

The stunned men at the table with DeMarcus turned to her and then back to him as he jumped to his feet.

“Taniea, what are you doing here? I’m in a meeting.”

“Yes, I can see that you’re in a meeting.” She looked across the table at the men and scoffed.

“This isn’t a meeting, this is you and your boys trying to figure out where to go for lunch,” she said with a roll of her eyes.

He smiled. “It’s still a meeting, Taniea, and you’re interrupting it.”

She waved her hand to dismiss what he said. “Who do you think you are? You leave a message on my voice mail dumping me? What kind of punk does that?” she asked with her hands on her hips.

DeMarcus looked at the men then back to Taniea. “Can we discuss this later, Taniea?” he asked in a low voice.

“No, if I wanted to discuss it later, I would have come later. I want to discuss it now.”

He sent them another look and spoke calmly. “Well, I didn’t want this type of confrontation, Taniea. That’s why I left the message.”

“You didn’t want a confrontation? You didn’t think that message would lead to a confrontation? What kind of crap is that?”

He chuckled softly and shook his head. “Okay, you know what, gentlemen, will you excuse me? It seems I have some pressing business to handle before we can continue with our meeting in peace. Go ahead to lunch; I’ll catch up with you.”

The men nodded and left as Taniea tapped her foot watching them leave, then turned back to him. “So what’s your real problem, DeMarcus? Now that you don’t have people to front in front of you can tell me the real deal.”

He smiled. “Okay, Taniea, I will. I heard you were up for that expansion project leader position at Honda,” he said and sat back down. “Is that true?”

She sat on the table and shrugged. “Yes, it’s true. It’s between me and Robert Jackson actually, but it’s all unofficial. So what.”

“I have no doubt that you will get it, Jackson isn’t a people person like you are.”

She wrapped her arms around her chest. “What’s your point, DeMarcus?”

“My point is if you get that job your income will take a major jump going north on the dollar scale. I don’t want to be in a relationship with a woman that makes more money than I do.”
She dropped her arms and her mouth fell open. “You’re not serious, are you?” she asked with a disbelieving chuckle.

“Oh, yes, I’m very serious. I have noticed in my experiences that no man wants a woman whose income is greater than his. A man should always make more money than his woman because he is the man and should be able to handle everything. If your woman makes more than you, she’ll think she’s wearing the pants in the relationship, and that’s not a relationship I would care to be in.”

She stared at him for a moment than shook her head and that disbelieving chuckle escaped her again. “Okay, let me get this straight. You dumped me because I’m up for a position that could possibly bring me more money than what you make? Is that about right?”

He nodded. “That and you are just too demanding. I simply don’t have time to give you what you want from me.”

She rubbed her temple. “So, my wanting you to date one woman at a time and spend some quality time with me so our relationship can grow was demanding? It was asking too much from you?”

He thought for a moment. “Yes, that about sums it up.” He laughed at the confused look on her face.

“So what are you saying, you thought I would stay at my current position forever? You knew I wanted more when we hooked up. Why did you pursue me in the first place if you knew I would eventually seek more money and a better position? Did you think I was so demanding then?”

“Because you’re fine, that’s why. You have a pretty face and a banging body. Every man wants a fine woman on his arm when they’re out and about, so his boys can give him props. Look, I realize you’re probably devastated over loosing me, but the bottom line is I don’t want you anymore. The ends and outs are irrelevant and so is whether you agree or disagree.”

She was stunned. “What?”

He continued as if she hadn’t spoken. “But I will give you some helpful advice because I think you’ll need it. Back down a little, you’re entirely too aggressive for a woman. No man wants a woman on the same lines as he is. Even in bed. You’re just too damn aggressive. You women say you want to be equal, but you don’t, you want your man to dominate over you. Stop trying to be the man and back it down a little.” He looked into her shocked expression and continued. “If you backed down, as fine as you are with that fine-ass body of yours, you can have any man you want. I may even consider taking you back.” He picked up the phone.

“Security, yes, can you send someone up to the main conference room on the eleventh floor? I have an unwelcome guest.” He hung up and leaned back in his chair smiling at her. “So, as you can see I’m a very busy man and I don’t have time for drama. Security will be here shortly to escort you out to the pavement.” He chuckled as he picked up his glass.

She hopped off the table and tapped the bottom of his glass before it touched his lips dumping the contents into his lap.

“Nobody wants a punk ass man who’s afraid of a strong, independent woman, anyway,” she said crisply and stomped out of the room.

Angry and confused she drove back to the Honda plant, stopped at the bathroom to freshen her tear streaked make up and drop some Visine into her eyes before going to her office with her best smile in place.

“Hi, Taniea, Mr. Barkley called to speak with you.”

She groaned. “Really? What did he want?”

He didn’t say, but he did ask that you call him when you returned from lunch.”

“That’s just great, thanks, Betty. Can you get him on the phone then transfer it to me?”

“Sure thing.”

She closed the door and sat heavily in her chair with a sputter. “Who needs him? He couldn’t kiss, anyway...slobbering and what not all over my face.”

“Taniea, Mr. Barkley is on line one,” Betty’s voice said over the speakerphone.

“Thanks, Betty.” She took a deep breath and picked up the receiver. “Hello, Mr. Barkley. How

are you today?” she asked pleasantly then paused. “That’s good, I’m fine, too. So, Betty said you wanted me to give you a call.” She paused again. “Of course, I can. I’ll be there shortly.” She put the phone back in its cradle and sat back.

“Okay, let’s see if this day can be recovered or if it goes down in history as my worst work day ever,” she muttered as she left her office. “Betty, I’m going upstairs to have an impromptu with Mr. Bradley. I don’t know how long it will take so just hold the fort until I return. If it goes badly you’ll see me sailing past the window at ninety miles per hour. I’m having one of those days.”

Betty chuckled nodding as her boss left. Taniea took the elevator to the third floor. The employees called it Suit Row because all executives had their offices on the third floor. As she went down the hall to Mr. Bradley’s office, she saw Robert Johnson coming toward her.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t Taniea Onyx...the competition,” he said with the biggest grin she’d ever seen.

She stopped in front of him and gave him her best practiced smile. “Hello, Robert, how are you? Did you have a meeting with Mr. Bradley, too?”

“As a matter of fact I did. It went very well, too. It seems he’s found the man for the position as manager over the expansion project that he wanted.”

She kept her gaze steady concentrating on keeping her smile in place and not letting her jaw drop, then she realized he was waiting for her to say something and forced the corners of her mouth higher.

“Oh, well, that’s great, Robert, congratulations.”

His smile seemed to widen too. “Yes, well, thank you, Taniea. I guess the best man won after all.

So, you’re about to have a meeting with Mr. Bradley, huh?” He watched her nod blankly and wrapped his arms around his chest. “What do you think your meeting will be about?”

Her smile faded and she twisted her lips, but took a deep breath before answering him. “I don’t know, Robert. Why not get out of my way so I can find out.”

“Of course, of course, but you be sure to let me know when you find out,” he said with a flip of his hand and continued down the hall laughing.

Taniea rolled her eyes. “Jerk.” She continued down the hall shaking off Robert’s comments before knocking on Mr. Bradley’s door.

“Yes, come in!”

Mr. Bradley was an older man, large and intimidating in appearance. He was at his desk with his glasses low on his nose going over a folder when Taniea poked her head in.

“Hi, Mr. Bradley, it’s Taniea.”

He smiled. “Yes, yes, please come in, Taniea.”

She closed the door behind her and sat in the chair in front of his desk. “So, what’s this little meeting about, Mr. Bradley?”

He removed his glasses and closed the folder. “Taniea, I’ll come right to the point. You probably have heard the rumors that you and Johnson were the lead candidates for the supervisor position on the expansion project.”

“Yes, sir, I heard about that,” she replied shifting in her chair.

“Yes and I’m guessing from your demeanor that you passed Johnson in the hall and he couldn’t wait to tell you that I offered that position to him. Am I right?”

She shifted again. “Yes sir, he did mention that bit of information. So what is this, my official let me down easy session? Sorry you weren’t chosen, but we picked the better man for the job or a man for the job?” she said with a snappy edge to her voice.

Mr. Bradley smiled. “Absolutely not. The reason I gave that job to Johnson is because I didn’t think he could handle the job I’m about to offer you.”

She stopped avoiding his gaze and her head swung back to him. “Excuse me?”

He chuckled. “Honda has chosen to open a new plant in Greenburg, Indiana. It was announced just recently. This plant has been asked to supply them with a competent person to help open the new site, get the training started and eventually assist the lead trainer train all other employees.”

She listened to him explain the job to her and though she had questions for him, her brain and her mouth seemed to have lost their connection.

“We’re not the only plant supplying personnel, of course. Other plants will be asking their staff if they’d like to relocate, too. Someone from the main plant in China will be relocating over here as well to work at the plant as the other trainer. That’s the position I want you to take, Taniea, trainer. You and the person from China will be doing the training for all of the employees together. This way we have someone representing both countries running the plant. You will have to go to China and train for two weeks, at Honda’s expense, of course.”

With minimal connection returning to her brain she could only nod as he spoke.

He chuckled and continued. “With this new position you would be required to relocate to Indiana directly after the training in China is over. Do you understand?”

The partial connection gained potential as what he was saying to her started to sink in, but all she could manage to get out was, “Uh-huh.”

“It would mean a promotion to Plant Trainer and a considerable raise, of course. In fact, it pays more money than the expansion supervisor position does because of the relocation,” he added with a wink.

Suddenly full cooperation was restored to the connection between her mouth and brain and she sat straight up in her chair.

“Wait a minute. Let me see if I understand what you’re asking of me. This position would mean I leave Anna and live in Indiana?” She watched him nod. “Okay, but before I do all that I first have to go to China for two weeks to train and they pay for all that?”

“Yes, but acceptance of this position would also mean several other trips to China during the year, at least four, to keep the plant employees updated on any changes that they may have in their policies.”

She eased back in her chair. “Hmm...”

“I’m aware that taking this position would be a life altering decision. I can give you some time to think---“

“I’ll take it.”

“Excuse me?”

“I’ll take it. I accept your offer.”

“Taniea, wait, maybe you should take a little time to think it over. Why not sleep on it or perhaps discuss it with your family, significant other or—“

She laughed. “Mr. Bradley, there is no significant other and the only family I have is my parents, and they’re in Florida. Flying to them from Indiana won’t be any different than flying to them from Ohio.”

He chuckled. “Well, that is true.”

“Besides Mr. Bradley, I’ve been here all my life and even though I like my job this is the chance to go for something new and believe me, I’m due for a change.”

“Excellent!” He opened his top draw and pulled out a folder sliding it across the desk to her.

“Here is some information you will need about the job, some other stuff you will need to

once you’re in China and also some information for you to help you to relocate more quickly. Since you agreed so quickly, I can call them and have the training set up to start next week. You leave in three days.”

“Three days?”

He smiled. “Yes, I was going to give you those three days to think it over, but you sound like you’re ready to start a new life. Three days is enough time for you to get your affairs in order, isn’t it?”

She flipped through the folder and smiled. “Three days is plenty of time.” She stood and extended her hand as her smile expanded. “Thank you, Mr. Bradley, for everything.”

“You’re very welcome, Taniea, and good luck. My secretary will contact you at week’s end with everything you’ll need to leave.”

Taniea floated back to her office to give Betty the good news and get her to work on relocating her. She sat in her chair heavily for the second time in one day, but this time her mood was the opposite as she spun around in circles laughing.

Review:

I enjoyed reading this story. It made me to want to read more about Taniea and Michael's relationship and how their cultural differences endured through the years.~ 5 HEARTS!

Lover Enshrined by JR Ward

From the first book of this series, Dark Lover, I was hooked and have eagerly waited for each book released. I’m a fan of Christine Feehan and Sherrilyn Kenyon’s vampire series and was expecting something very similar to it. I’m glad I was wrong. The world Ward has created for this series is intriguing and I can easily picture each place described. The author also goes very deep into the character’s tortured personalities. I also love the fact that she also pays attention to all the other characters and subplots as well. And, the author just loves leaving the reader with cliff hangers at the end of a chapter.

Lover Enshrined is full of emotion and action. Ward delves deep into the life of a drug addict and rape victim. One character also faces the fact that he’s gay. Some harsh realities of what these people face are brought to life. There are spots in the book that are hard to get through, but I applaud Ward for writing it.

Nothing But Trouble by Jamie Hill

This story came to me at a difficult time in my life. Part of the situations mirrored my own life so closely that it was difficult to keep my mind straight on the editing. The emotions from the writing were beautiful yet heartbreaking to read, as I too had to watch my mother rapidly succumb to cancer. But I forged ahead and I'm so happy I did. Seeing Adrian and Graham come to terms and struggle with their love and eventual relationship was a thrill. Ms. Hill has written another exquisite short story for us to enjoy.

Adrian Scott doesn't expect to fall in love with his employer after spending one night with him. Graham Elliott is handsome and exciting, a very wealthy man, not in Adrian 's league. But their night together was intoxicating, and Adrian can't shake the thought of making a life with this older man. As per their arrangement, they have two more nights together. Will that be enough time to convince his boss they belong together, or will the deal prove to be nothing but trouble?

Excerpt:

“I want you to spend the night with me. I’ll pay you ten thousand dollars.”

Adrian Scott blinked, wondering if his employer was serious. He’d never heard of such an offer, except in the movies. “Excuse me?”

“Do you really need me to repeat myself, or are you simply mulling my proposal over?” The man’s bright blue eyes twinkled. He always seemed to have a spark of mischief about him, along with a genuine smile that he displayed often. Today was no different. He seemed amused by Adrian’s reaction to his shocking statement.

Adrian had always found the man attractive, but never let his thoughts go past that. He ignored the thick, wavy blond hair, and handsome, chiseled face. The muscular physique of the man’s body looked like it belonged to someone in his twenties, rather than forties, making it hard to ignore. But Graham Elliott was not only his boss; he was also a very wealthy man. Way out of my league. Elliott owned the Las Vegas casino where Adrian worked as a waiter and sometimes bartender.

Tending bar was more prestigious and paid better, but nothing could beat the tips waiters made on busy nights. He’d pocketed several hundred dollars on many occasions. To Adrian, it was all about the money.

“What about Celina?” He was curious how Elliott’s live-in girlfriend might feel about the proposed arrangement. A stacked beauty— she had flowing red hair, tits out to there—and was a fixture around the casino. She and Elliott shared the penthouse apartment, which by all accounts was one incredible showplace. Adrian wouldn’t know; the man’s grand office was the closest he’d ever gotten to his employer.

Elliott flexed his fingers. “Celina and I have an understanding. I don’t worry about how much she spends on her daily shopping sprees, and she doesn’t worry if I don’t come home at night. I keep a suite on the floor below the penthouse for, shall we say, special occasions.”

Heat flushed through Adrian’s body. He knew his face was probably bright red. Even with the year-round tan afforded him by the strong Nevada sun; he blushed like an idiot when embarrassed. “Is that what I am? A special occasion?”

“I hope so. I’ve been watching you, Adrian. I like the way you look in the tight, black pants you wear to work. Makes me very interested to find out what lies beneath.”

His mind raced. He wasn’t seeing anyone, so that wouldn’t be a problem. But he really liked his job, and worried that if things didn’t go right, he might suddenly find himself out of work. “I’m concerned this could interfere with my job.”

“If you say no? Of course it won’t. All I ask is your discretion. Keep quiet, and things go on as usual. If I discover you’ve told anyone about our conversation, you’ll certainly be let go.”

It occurred to Adrian, he’d never considered saying no. “And if I say yes?”

A slow smile spread across Elliott’s face. “Nothing that happens between us will put your job in jeopardy. Again, all I ask is discretion—and a blood test. Hate to be crass, but I need to see the paperwork from a test done on today’s date, or after. I’ll provide you the same courtesy.”

Adrian looked him in the eye. “And fifty thousand dollars.”

The man’s eyebrows rose.

“For two nights. Eight at night to eight in the morning, I’m all yours.”

Squinting before he nodded, Elliott added, “I’ll accept those terms, in part. Make it three nights, and you’ve got yourself a deal.”

Adrian stood. “Agreed.” He extended his hand.

Graham Elliott took his time rising and reaching out to shake. His hand was warm, his grip firm.
The man squeezed his fingers, making a tingle zip down Adrian’s spine. He imagined those strong hands caressing other parts of his body. It was enough to harden his cock, right there in the office. He tried to speak, but his mouth was dry.

Releasing his grasp, Elliott reached for a business card. “Call me when you’ve got the paperwork. We’ll arrange a date to meet.”

“I will.” He tucked the card into his pocket. “Thank you, sir.”

With another nod and a very quick wink, Elliott turned and walked out the back door.

Adrian glanced around the office, taking a moment to compose himself before returning to the casino floor. Who would have thought it? Graham Elliott was gay—or perhaps bisexual, if he’d sampled the wares Celina flaunted around the bar and gaming tables. It was an incredible turn of events. And perhaps the most amazing stroke of luck he’d ever encountered.

* * * *

There was an inexpensive clinic near the Vegas strip where Adrian had his blood tested regularly. He didn’t mind doing it again for Elliott, actually thought it was a pretty astute request. He’d still ask for condoms, but since the boss was paying, he wasn’t sure how much control he’d have over the situation.

Dressing for their ‘date’, the whole thing felt surreal. It had taken two days for the test results, another five before Elliott had the time to schedule him in. Adrian wasn’t sure if he felt more like a whore, or a piece of meat. Either way, he’d get over it. He’d never sold his body before, but fifty thousand dollars was a lot of money. First time for everything.

Showering and dressing carefully, he poured himself into the tightest black slacks he owned and a crisp white shirt with the casino logo on the chest. He didn’t have to dress as if he were going to work, but it felt like he was. Besides, he could explain his presence there more easily if he looked like he was working.

After shampooing, his thick black hair sprang into tight ringlets. Adrian had always liked his curls, and in high school, discovered the girls liked them, too. Trouble was, that was about the same time he realized he didn’t like girls. Guys wearing tight skivvies in the locker room turned him on, and he had to be careful not to show it.

Running gel through his hair, he let it dry naturally. Satisfied with his appearance, he took a moment to phone his mother before leaving. He tried to check in with her every day, and felt guilty cutting the call short. It was seven-thirty, and it’d take fifteen minutes to walk to the casino. There were times he wished he had a car, but he usually enjoyed walking. He was glad not to have many expenses. His tiny room in the run-down boarding house was evidence of that.

Walking toward the strip, he allowed his mind to wander about how he’d like to spend fifty thousand dollars. A nice apartment with clean hallways and plenty of hot water topped his list. A sporty Harley Davidson motorcycle would be great transportation in the city that never slept. Both were fantasies. The money was already spent. He had no illusions about that.

He spotted the Graham’s Aces casino a block away. The sheer magnitude of the building sent a chill through him, as it always did whenever he paused long enough to admire it. Imagine having enough money to own that. It was mind boggling, and rather than dwell on his miserable lot in life, he walked on.

As instructed, he found Elliott’s assistant, who would take him up in the hotel’s private elevator. He’d seen Carmen Gray around the casino; a blonde knockout like her was hard to miss. She’d always seemed efficient, right there on top of Elliott’s business needs. He’d wondered once if that was the only thing she was on top of. He chuckled now at the misconception. Perhaps she was there purposely, another cog in Elliott’s wheel of deception.

She greeted him pleasantly, but skipped the small talk as the elevator ascended. Adrian longed to ask her how many other men she’d escorted to the private suite, but thought better of it. She wouldn’t tell him, and he really didn’t want to know.

“First door on your left,” she instructed, when the lift glided to a stop.

“Thank you.” He stepped out, and the doors started to close between them.

“Have a nice evening,” she said softly, before disappearing.

“You too.” It was meaningless, she was gone. His nerves jangled, and he stood there staring, as if she might come back.

Several minutes passed before he moved. His watch read eight p.m., it was time to knock. Two sharp raps on the door she’d pointed out, and then Adrian waited. His heart thumped so loudly, he hoped people on other floors couldn’t hear it.

Graham Elliott opened the door wearing a deep blue silk robe. “Good evening. Come in.”

“Thank you. Hope I’m not late.” He stepped into the suite, and the man closed the door behind him.

“Right on time. I was opening a bottle of wine. I thought perhaps we could enjoy it in the hot tub.”

“Allow me.” Adrian moved to the bar, slipping in behind, where he felt more at ease. He picked up the smoky-colored bottle. “A very nice vintage.”

“I like it. Hopefully, you will, too.”

He worked the cork loose, setting it aside. Pouring the red liquid into two glasses, he put the bottle down, and looked up. “I’m sure it’ll be great.”

Elliott chuckled. “Why do I think we’re not talking about wine anymore? You look so nervous, Adrian. Relax. I’m not into anything kinky.”

His heart skipped a beat and he knew his eyes widened. How naive was that? That idea hadn’t entered his mind. He’d never done anything kinky, ever. It would have been one hell of a surprise if Elliott liked whips and chains, or something equally unusual. “That’s a relief.”

“I’m sorry. We should have talked specifics—”

“Not necessary.” He shook his head. “Oh, this is for you.” Adrian pulled the blood test results from his pocket and handed the paper over.

“Thanks. Here’s mine.” Elliott reached into his robe, retrieving a similar slip. “I’m assuming we’re all good.” He pocketed Adrian’s paper without looking at it.

“We are.” He did the same with his employer’s results. Not looking at it seemed like a sign of trust, one he didn’t want to breech. Picking up the two glasses, he looked in the man’s eyes.

“Where shall I take these?”

“The hot tub is on the balcony.” He led the way through a large living area, decorated in the hotel colors of maroon, black and white.

It was more spacious than Adrian’s whole apartment. He found it rather gaudy for such an obviously expensive suite. The hotel didn’t want people spending time in their rooms, though. The casino was where they made their money. “This is amazing,” he said politely, as they passed into the large bedroom.

“It’s okay. Sometimes I get tired of seeing the same colors every day. A little purple might be nice. Vivid splashes of orange here and there.” He stepped through a double set of sliding glass doors, onto a large balcony off the bedroom. A roomy hot tub was waiting for them, water steaming and bubbling. The tub looked big enough for six people, or two who wanted to spread out. It had thick, padded rails. Adrian smiled at the man’s words.

Setting the wine glasses on the edge of the tub, he turned to Elliott. “You’re going to love this.” Holding the man’s gaze, he unbuttoned his shirt and tossed it aside.

“I already do.”

“Hang on.” Kicking off his shoes and socks, he unfastened his slacks and lowered them.
Elliott blinked, and burst into laughter.

“Not the reaction I usually hope for, but this time it’s okay.” Adrian glanced down at his purple and orange briefs. He looked back up at his boss, a grin on his face.

“That’s priceless. I guess it goes to show, I almost always get what I want.”

“Almost?” Adrian looked at the man.

Elliott stared back, a lustful expression on his face. “Never say never, or always. But, I do know—I’m getting what I want tonight.” His gaze dropped to Adrian’s briefs, and stayed there.
Blatant desire in the older man’s eyes caused his cock to stir. It’d been a long time since anyone had looked at him so hungrily. The thought aroused him, and his briefs tented uncomfortably. “These are getting pretty tight. I should probably take them off.”

“Please do.” He watched Adrian lower the garment, kicking it away. Satisfaction gleamed in the man’s eyes as he examined the erection that sprang up before him. “Very nice. Better than I’d imagined.”

Adrian stepped into the warm water. “You’ve imagined what I looked like naked?” The thought surprised him.

Elliott chuckled. “Don’t look so shocked. I’ve had my eye on you for quite some time.” He peeled off his robe and sank into the hot tub.

Catching a quick peek of tanned torso and thick cock, Adrian raised his eyebrows. “Interesting.” He’d had no idea his employer thought about him that way. It was disconcerting, but flattering, in a slightly creepy way. He reached for the wine glasses, handing one to Elliott.

“Thanks.” He raised his glass in the air. “I always like to toast to…possibilities.”

Adrian tapped his glass against the other. “To possibilities.” He sipped, allowing the wine to pool in his mouth a moment before swallowing. “Very nice.”

“I’m glad you approve. So, Adrian, tell me about yourself. Where are you from?”

“I grew up in southern California. My parents and I moved here when I was in sixth grade. My father had always wanted to deal blackjack. He worked as a dealer for ten years, before he died.”

“I’m so sorry.” Elliott watched his face as he spoke. “How did he die?”

“Lung cancer. Back in the day, no one minded smoking in the casinos. When my father wasn’t smoking on his break, he was inhaling fumes in the gaming room while he worked. Not sure his lungs would have recognized fresh air.”

“I remember those days. I smoked for a few years, myself. Now, I can’t stand the odor.”
“I hear you.” Adrian tossed back the last of his wine.

“So what about your mother? How is she getting along? Does she work?”

“Mr. Elliott, I’m not that comfortable talking about my family. Besides, I don’t think you brought me here for small talk.”

Elliott shrugged slightly, then nodded. He finished his wine and set the glass aside. “Just making polite conversation.”

Adrian looked him in the eye. “I’m simply telling you, you don’t have to. Be polite, that is.”
“Whatever you say.” With a shrug, the man was on him, pressing his shoulders back against the edge of the tub. His mouth found Adrian’s and both opened at the same time, tongues darting, tasting.

Adrian groaned as the kiss deepened. He couldn’t move his hands so he thrust his hips forward, cock rubbing against the other man’s leg.

“Oh, yeah,” Elliott murmured as he took a breath. “As luscious as these lips are, there’s something else I’ve been dying to taste.” He pressed his leg into Adrian’s groin.

“Whatever you desire,” Adrian replied breathily.

Elliott’s mouth moved lower, tracing a wet path down the jaw to his neck. “It’s a good thing we have all night, then. Because I desire you, Adrian. All of you.”

Elliott suckled one of his flat nipples, sending a shiver down his spine. All night sounded good to him, too. The man grazed the wizened nub with his teeth, moving to the other side, forcing Adrian to inhale sharply. “I’m, uh, open to possibilities.”

Elliott chuckled, nuzzling his way down Adrian’s flat stomach. “If you’re not, I think you will be when I’m done here.” Stopping a moment to reposition Adrian’s legs, the older man raised him up so he floated on the top of the water. Elliott knelt and supported Adrian’s hips, so he had clear access to the flagpole of an erection sticking out of the water. “Oh, my,” he murmured, burying his nose in the coarse, dark pubic patch before touching anything else.

Adrian squirmed. The man obviously knew his way around a cock. His was rock hard and oozing pre-cum by the time Elliott finished teasing the surrounding area. “Please.”

“Mmm…please, what?” He sucked Adrian’s puckered ball sac into his mouth, rolling the orbs between his cheeks and tongue.

“Suck my cock.” Adrian could barely utter the words. The warm mouth felt so heavenly, he feared he might come the minute his rod finally received some attention. The teasing was torture; the outcome would undoubtedly be sheer bliss.

“Anxious, boy?” Elliott let his nose nudge the pulsing staff. “Mmm, you’re throbbing already. Tell me, Adrian, what’s your pleasure? Would you prefer to stick this gorgeous cock in my ass and fuck me with all your might? Or do you like to be on the receiving end? I’ve got ten inches I could ram into your sexy little hole and fuck you senseless.”

Another drop of sticky white seed pooled in the slit of his cock. Elliott’s tongue flicked out like a serpent and devoured it. Adrian gasped. “Oh, Jesus. I want both, sir.”

He carries her to his palace for her safety all the while worried about his feelings for her. He only has one night on this world is it enough to form a strong enough bond, and why does she look upon him so fearfully?

Excerpt:

The trail ahead was dark. Now that she was in the forest, she could no longer see the ground in front of her. Stumbling, she fell, her foot catching on a tree root. Crying out in pain, Alice forced herself to get back up and continue to run. In the distance dogs barked, and she could hear the sounds of her pursuers breaking through the undergrowth.

Straining to breathe, Alice ran on, stumbling at almost every step. Moving through the forest was hard going, every movement causing sharp pains to shoot through her bare feet. Sweat dripped into her eyes, making them sting and her vision blur. Wiping it away didn’t help, yet she kept on running.

Alice had no idea how much time had passed as she ran, nor in which direction she was headed. It was a moment before she noticed that the forest in front of her was beginning to thin and grow lighter. Running towards the area, she felt the earth underfoot quickly become wet and soft, then grow hard and bitterly cold. She began to lose all feeling in her feet as they pounded against soil that steadily became frozen the further she ran. The dogs sounded closer and she heard the men shouting. Turning, she caught a glimpse of their torches before her foot caught on an unseen obstacle, twisting underneath her. She hit the forest floor hard. Pain shot through her foot and up her leg, as she clawed at the remains of the fallen leaves, writhing in the cold. She rolled over to face the men as their shadowy forms moved through the trees towards her.

The dogs burst out of the surrounding trees, closely followed by the men. The burning torches lit their faces, twisted with hate and bitterness. Using her good leg, she pushed herself backward and continued to crawl slowly onward. Her heart raced, and she knew it was all going to be over soon. One of the men moved closer, barely holding his dog back, allowing it to bark and growl at her face. The beast’s saliva dripped onto her shoulder and she flinched away as it snarled at her. Alice closed her eyes as the rest of the men approached, not wanting them to see the fear that glimmered there in her unshed tears.

The dogs’ barks echoed, making them seem to be everywhere at once, and Alice waited for what was to come. She wasn’t sure how long she sat, nor could she say when everything went still, only that she slowly became aware that she was encircled by a deathly silence. Sitting still, the only noise Alice could hear was her heart beating. A shiver ran through her, and when she dared to breathe in, the air was icy cold. She felt chilled to the bone, and as Alice listened nervously, trying to hear anything, she thought she caught the sound of a gentle tinkle that reminded her of watching the frost forming on her windows in the dead of winter. The ground around her froze and grew icy under her fingertips. Alice couldn’t say what it was, but something didn’t feel quite natural about the whole situation. Scared, she blindly tried to back away from the peculiar noise, but as she began to move her hands slipped and she fell, causing her head to connect with the frozen ground. The last thing she heard as she slipped into unconsciousness was the tinkling growing deafeningly loud.

Kevalan heard the commotion before he could see it. He waited, hidden by the foliage, as a panicked woman fell through the trees closely followed by a pack of baying hounds and many men. He knew of the village that they had come from, but it was the first time he had seen any of the people in many years. Anger filled him as he watched them chase the woman. When she fell, the men and their dogs quickly surrounded her. Only then did he step forward from the shadows. He gained a small amount of satisfaction at the fear and panic that flashed briefly across the men’s faces. As one, they all turned and ran, their hounds following closely behind, though it seemed more out of obedience than fear. Once they had gone Kevalan turned his attention to the young woman, now unconscious on the ground. He picked her up, noticing her blood-coated feet and the scratches covering her body. She weighed almost nothing in his arms and carried her easily as he carefully walked back to his home.

Over the years, many visitors had taken up brief periods of residence at his palace, but never anyone he had had to rescue. As Kevalan took her to one of the guest bedrooms, he wondered why she was running. Her clothes seemed nothing but rags, and readily fell apart at his touch. Laying the young woman down, he moved to clean her wounds and then gently bound them with soft cloth. Her skin was slightly tanned, and she had the look of someone who had worked outside her whole life, although she was painfully thin.

Kevalan looked upon her. He had pulled the covers up over her so she wouldn’t get cold. Hopefully she would wake after receiving the rest she apparently needed. However, as he gazed at her, he felt a stirring deep inside.

Kevalan was an immortal being. His task, since time immemorial, was to travel to different planes, bringing the ice and snow that the worlds needed. The plane he was currently on, he visited only once a year, at their winter solstice. He kept to himself, and although occasionally village elders would attend a meeting with him to discuss a problem they were having. In more recent years, with magic fading, this had become an increasingly rare occurrence. Most of the people he met were in fear of him, or thought he would do them harm in some way. Now, as he watched the woman sleep, he felt a longing to be touched, a need for companionship and a fear that he would once more be left alone.

Filled with the urge to lay down with her and keep her safe, but frightened at the thought of scaring her and being left alone once more, Kevalan left the room. He walked around the palace for a time, unable to get the image of the woman out of his mind. He found everything about her tantalising; when he had picked her up she had smelt of the trees, her warm body had caused tingles to run through his own, her breasts had pushed up against him, causing his body to react to her closeness. Without realising it, Kevalan found that he had stopped just inside one of the central rooms in the palace. The walls were lined with mirrors through which any and every room could be seen, heard, and even scents smelt at will. Kevalan wasn’t sure of the purpose of this room exactly, just that it had always been this way. He rarely entered this room since he was on his own and it only served to remind him of that loneliness. However, now, as he looked over the mirrors, he located the one that portrayed her room and his heart leapt at seeing her.

At the furthest point from the mirror he could see her sleeping form. She had obviously been moving in her sleep; the covers had slipped a little from her body and he could just make out the gentle curve of her soft breasts. He could just smell the trees and her own warm scent as if he was still holding her. He wanted to kiss her ruby red lips, to take away the pain from her injuries and to hold her in his arms before lying her down and making love to her.

Visions of her naked body swam in front of him. Their bodies entwined as he pushed his cock deep inside her. Unconsciously, his hand had slipped into his breeches and he had taken hold of himself, as the images consumed his mind he began to move his hand up and down, pumping it faster.

She screamed out his name as they made love, raked his back with her nails and thrust her breasts up for him to suckle. Keeping her in his tight embrace, he pushed himself deeper into her; with each thrust, their passions overriding anything else, forcing them to act solely on their desires and physical needs. He kissed her passionately as he exploded inside of her, his body tensing before they collapsed and held one another lovingly on the bed.

Kevalan let out a cry of pleasure as he came, then a swift wave of guilt at losing control and playing with himself to her image flooded through him. Still, he stood for a short while, looking at the mirror. His eyes prickled with tears as he thought of her leaving. He knew it was strange to see her as part of the palace ,since she had been unconscious and hadn’t even seen him, but he hoped perhaps she would stay. There was just something about her that made him feel complete and he knew that he would feel more acutely alone if she left.

He wanted to be there when she woke up, to try to explain how it was that she came to be in a palace of ice. Once he had sorted himself out, he swiftly made his way to her room.

Left with just enough to make the trip after her father dies Olivia travels across a dangerous ocean during WW1 to marry a man she never met. Even worse, Cort was never told until the morning they went to go pick her up at the train station that an arrangement has been made. Now the entire family seems to be trying to keep her from even talking to the man they want her to marry while a younger brother just wants her for himself. All that changes when a blizzard traps them together with no family to interfere. With a childhood accident leaving Olivia to walk with a cane she finds Cort has no problems with her scars but his own black past. Then it's time for them to make an arrangement of their own.

Excerpt:

Late in the winter of 1916, a train rolled to a stop in the snowbound rail station in the middle of Alberta, Canada. The station was small, but of picturesque brick with a slate roof. Two men in heavy wool shirts and pants and thick fur coats stood waiting for the train. They looked nervous. No, on second thought, one looked nervous. The other looked furious.

"Please, Miss Olivia, let me help you down the steps?" The porter asked after several people had disembarked. The two men perked up at the name and watched as she took the porter's arm. The younger man watched not her face, but the foot that emerged from under the skirt that was lifted for descent. Once down the stairs, the porter handed her a stout silver-capped walking stick. Both men could only stare. Olivia had thick black hair and dark eyes that made her pale skin stand out. Under a full-length seal coat, she was dressed in the latest fashion.

The men walked over to the train. "Olivia Thatcher?"

She raised her eyes. They weren't black as they first thought, but a deep blue-gray that reminded them of a horrendous storm over the mountains. It didn't bode well for the present situation.

"Yes."

The older of the two men walked forward and offered his hand. "I'm George Garrett and this is my son, Cort. I'm glad you could make it in this weather."

"Funerals make no plans concerning the weather."

"I'm sure you won't find my son so much trouble we need to worry about funerals."

Her eyes flickered annoyance, and the storm in them grew. "I'm rather surprised, seeing as you arranged this fiasco that you wouldn't consider my being here as proof that my father died last month. I won't have his death thought of so lightly. Martin, could you show Mr. Garrett where my things are?"

George could only stare in disbelief at the way she had spoken to him.

"Of course, Miss Olivia. Come with me, Mr. Garrett. I'll have you out of here right away," the porter answered.

She was alone with Cort as they rounded the building. Olivia began to walk away to get some exercise after being on the train for so long. She had made it only a few feet before she began to fall. A strong arm caught her easily. She looked over and saw Cort clearly for the first time through her anger. He had longer, sun-streaked light brown hair, and a hint of stubble on a rugged and quite handsome face. He was tan and staring at her with bright green eyes. Olivia suddenly felt very uncomfortable with the position she found herself in and tried to pull away from him.

"Careful. This snow is slick if you're not used to it," Cort warned.

"It's not the snow. I suppose my father forgot to write that this stick isn't just for show. Not being able to walk much the last few days has made it worse than normal."

Cort ignored her attempts at leaving his side and slipped her arm in his to keep her from falling again. "We'd best walk a bit then. The ranch is another three hours by car in this weather." There was a strained silence as they made their way down the station platform.

Olivia opened her mouth several times to say something, but she finally had to force it out. "I'm going to get this out of the way now. If I don't meet your expectations, tell me now, and I'll head home, consider this a tour of your beautiful country, and inconvenience you no further. I have no intentions making either of us miserable with this blasted arrangement."

Cort started to smile, and Olivia's heart caught in her throat as she waited for an answer. That smile was disconcerting. He was either smiling because he approved or because he was glad she gave him an out. He stopped walking and turned to her. His hand gently traced her cheek, the calluses of his hands rough against her skin. Then he kissed her cheek gently in welcome.

"If you're worried about my expectations, never fear. You've already greatly exceeded them."

"And, if I remember the letter I read, all that means is I have a pulse and some semblance of looks," she snapped, annoyed. She was not one to be won over so easily, despite his looks. Or maybe it was that her heart betrayed her and pounded furiously in her chest. She only hoped he couldn't tell her voice had become huskier since his kiss, peck on the cheek that it was.

There was only that smile again. "My father did me a great injustice then, as he never met any of my women. Their semblance was anything but vague, and their pulses quite rapid." His hand found her wrist and searched out her own pulse. "Like yours is just now." He started walking again, half-grinning at her annoyance. Then the grin faded. "I'm sorry I shouldn't joke when you're still grieving your father."

"Thank you," she murmured.

"Your father's letter was rather wrong as well. Fine looking doesn't begin to describe you properly. Magnificent is what comes to mind."

"I'm a cripple." Olivia announced, as a matter-of-fact.

"Crippled is my mother who spends her time in a chair all day because it hurts too much to move. Do you mind my asking how you came to need the stick?"

She kept her face straight ahead. Her jaw tightened; she was not sure she could say it out loud, even after all those years. Then, to her amazement, her voice broke the silence. "I fell off a horse when I was eleven. That's not quite descriptive enough. It rolled on top of me with my leg pinned between it and a tree. My leg was shattered badly. They thought, after it happened, that they would have to remove it completely. I was back on a horse as soon as I was able. It was the only way I could get around. They told me I would never walk again. It took me two years to work up to just walking across the room. I'll probably always have this limp, slight though it looks after nine years. The main problem is my knee gives out quite easily. It's easier to walk with the stick than to fall on my face twenty times a day." The silence returned as the wind blew fiercely. Her clothes were not suited to the weather. Olivia pulled the coat around her tighter.

"I just can't figure out why a woman would have to have a marriage arranged. I can understand it even less now that I've seen you. You're not plain by any means, your eyes match, and your fingers aren't webbed."

"For that matter, why do you? If your experience is as well rounded as you claim, you should need it less than I." Olivia saw that one hit home, and Cort flinched.

"I was told only this morning that I was engaged. I thought my father had more respect for me. I guess I know how he feels about me after this."

"Then we're both thrilled with this arrangement, aren't we?" she snapped. His jaded father had written a reply without ever telling Cort of the decision, just as her jaded father had written the letter claiming she was in need of a knight in shining armor.

As they slowly made their way to the car, letting her get the full enjoyment of being off the train, they said little. Perhaps they both knew at that moment that, if they said much more, they would begin fighting over something that was neither of their faults.

"Took your own sweet time now, didn't you? We've got to get back," George snapped as they reached the car.

"Just shut up and leave us be, now that the damage is done," Olivia hissed as she climbed in. Cort was grinning, trying not to let anyone see. Somehow, from that small gesture, she knew she wasn't the woman anyone thought she would be: she was headstrong, opinionated, determined, even tough. It was best George learn early that she was able to take care of herself; if the look on his face at her tongue was any indication, he wasn't happy about the real Olivia Thatcher.

They headed out of the station and town without another word. Despite the bumps in the country roads before they were barely a few miles out of town, Olivia's head fell to Cort's shoulder. She was sound asleep. It was the end of a long journey, and coming from England was no small feat in these times of war. Even though the United Stared had threatened Germany against sinking neutral ships after the Lusitania, it was still not uncommon for them to be blown out of the water.

No Strings Attached by Devyn Quinn

The print book anthology titled Trio was purchased as research for the Aphrodisia/Kensington line. Little did I know that two days later I would be scheduling Devyn Quinn to be my first guest blogger on my blog. Oh, and did I mention that she has a story in this particular book? Small world, huh?

Anyway, there's this warning on the back under the blurbs that says Warning! hsi is a REALLY HOT book. (Sexually Explicit) The publisher wasn't lying. As we traveled this weekend, I read Devyn's story, No Strings Attached. LOVED IT!!!

Okay, when I opened to the first page of the story, I almost groaned. The location was Reno, Nevada. What is it about the books I've been reading lately that take place in big gambling towns? lol

Seriously. I wasn't sure if I'd like Lara or not. The beginning finds her not in a good position and I was really wodering if she was going to allow that ass (pardon my language) take advantage of the situation her ex put her in (grumble about that piece of dirt). She got Kudo points for lashing out at DiMarco.

But that's not the good part. That comes later when she meets and agrees to spending a week with Nick and Jared. (Hmmm, I have two main characters by those names that I absolutely loved too.) See how they distract me? :-P

Those to men were delicious. And the things they did to Lara...*sigh* Could I trade places with her?

Needless to say, Ms. Quinn had me well entertained with this very stimulating, sexy story. Her words were expertly written, drawing the reader into the story as if we were actually watching the scene unfold live. Oh, and let's not forget the little twist at the end. But I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it yet *evil laugh*
I'm still reading the other two stories...so far so good. But I'm also in the middle of Ms. Quinn's other menage book from Ellora's Cave...Three To Dance. Loving it.

You know the saying - You had me at hello. Well, Ms. Quinn had me at "God, you're perfect in every way:. :-D
